We use wellness education to empower children to learn to make good decisions. Wellness education lessons will be age appropriate and will include sessions on effective communication, managing emotions, building self-esteem, appropriate conflict resolution techniques, ethical behavior and social etiquette, decision making about drugs, alcohol and tobacco and any other skills and topics that will effectively engender well-being, self-reliance and self-respect.
Additional lessons in interview-taking techniques, resume-building skills, workplace behavior and industry will be offered for older children nearing work age.
Sample lesson topics are outlined below:
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Expressing feelings, managing stress, self-control, goal setting, learning from mistakes, respecting differences, bullying, proper hygiene, making friends, relationships, character building, importance of being polite, making healthy food choices, tobacco/alcohol/other drugs, saying ‘no’ to drugs, stranger danger.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Goal setting, self-esteem, stress, values, relationships, character building, food labels/serving sizes, heart disease, tobacco/alcohol/other drugs, saying ‘no’ to drugs, dealing with conflict, violence, and gangs.
HIGH SCHOOL
Self-esteem, decision making, managing emotions, relationships, character building, tobacco/alcohol/other drugs, refusal skills, dealing with conflict, violence, gangs, communication skills, interviewing skills, resume building.
